Celbi promotes the country’s largest voluntary beach clean-up

On Saturday the 3rd, Celbi promoted a clean up at the Praia da Leirosa beach.

Last june, for the third consecutive year, close to two hundred and fifty people – adults and children alike – came together to clean up the Leirosa beach. The event was promoted by Celbi in partnership with the recreation centre Centro de Recreio Popular de Marinha das Ondas – Praia da Leirosa (CRPMO), and the Marinha das Ondas Scout Group, and was supported by the Marinha das Ondas Parish Council. This year, three more institutions joined the initiative: the Associação Cultural Recreativa e Desportiva e Marinhense (ACRDM), the Cáritas Coimbra charitable organisation and Laboratório MAREFOZ, giving impetus to what was already considered the country’s largest voluntary beach clean-up.

Following the success of the first two initiatives, parents, children, friends, employees of Celbi, and residents of the parish of Marinha das Ondas, of praia da Leirosa, and of other parishes in the borough of Figueira da Foz, all came together for one cause, and over the course of one morning, in the glorious sunshine, filled an industrial container full of rubbish, made up mostly of plastic.

At the ACRDM headquarters, the mood was one of celebration over lunch. Throughout that Saturday afternoon, dozens of children enjoyed the entertainment put together especially for the youngsters as a way of celebrating Children’s Day. In line with its slogan «Together, on the right path», Celbi aims to continue with this initiative and to promote others within the surrounding community, thereby encouraging learning, conserving the environment, and cultivating good neighbourly relations.
