Why? Because putting their seatbelt on has become a habit. Virtually everyone does it, without needing any instructions, suggestions or reminders. But it took some effort to get to this point. There were many prevention and awareness campaigns on TV and advertising hoardings, there were activities in schools, automobile manufacturers installed warnings, we were given fines&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>A habit is a behaviour which consists of reacting to a stimulus, resulting from frequent repetition until it becomes almost automatic. Before we get to the point of acting \u201cautomatically\u201d, changing habits results from a conscious process of choices and mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>Only later does it start being done unconsciously. First came the conviction, then the formal mechanisms and now we all use a seatbelt without even thinking about it.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014 Celbi embarked on a project aimed at changing habits, to improve safety. The key pieces of a system had already been consolidated, including the system itself being certified since 2005. But Celbi wanted to take it further. The company would continue to work with Resources and Processes (always).<\/p>\n<p>But now was the time to invest in developing the People factor. The project had just one simple goal: to prevent people hurting themselves. It was put into practice in three stages and had very positive results. There wasand still is) a decrease in the number of accidents.<\/p>\n<p>This article will focus on describing what was specifically done in terms of changing habits. Habits are formed in a cycle: Cue (stimulus) \u2013 Routine \u2013 Reward \u2013 Cue \u2013 Routine \u2013\u2026 The safe behavior project was put together on the basis of this cycle. In order for people to change a routine, they need to be convinced of the benefits of changing. This was achieved via brief training sessions in 2014\/15.<\/p>\n<p>During this time, visual elements were developed, such as the video at the entrance to the \u00a0remises, posters, placards etc. These were the Cues. New safety Routines were established during the following stage: Safety Walks, One-Minute Safety videos and Safety Notes. None of this was quick or easy. By continuously monitoring our initiatives (which we still do) we are able to see that in none of these have we achieved a 100% success rate. Of course some people have better behaviours than others. Some stick with the quantities stipulated for the routines, while others don\u2019t. The same thing happened when we, as a society, started using seatbelts.<\/p>\n<p>The Reward comes from the hierarchy recognizing good behaviour. \u201cThe most important indicator for me is always what my boss asks!\u201d and it\u2019s no different with safety. It has been three years since the project got underway in 2014. Perhaps those who come here every day find it hard to understand what\u2019s changed. We made small changes, month after month. But the importance of all of them put together can be seen in the results of these changes.<\/p>\n<p>As they go about their work, the people at Celbi are different. They have adopted safer habits. Em 2014 a Celbi iniciou um projecto que pretendia mudar h\u00e1bitos, em prol da seguran\u00e7a. As pe\u00e7as-base de um sistema de seguran\u00e7a j\u00e1 estavam solidificadas, incluindo a certifica\u00e7\u00e3o do pr\u00f3prio sistema desde 2005. Mas pretendia- se ir mais al\u00e9m. A Celbi continuaria a trabalhar Meios e Processos (sempre). Mas era o momento de investir na evolu\u00e7\u00e3o do factor Pessoas.\r\n\r\nO objectivo do projecto \u00e9 \u00fanico e simples: evitar que as pessoas se magoem. Foi operacionalizado em tr\u00eas etapas que apresentaram resultados muito positivos. Verificou-se (e verifica-se) uma redu\u00e7\u00e3o da sinistralidade. Focamos a nossa aten\u00e7\u00e3o neste artigo na descri\u00e7\u00e3o do que foi feito em concreto ao n\u00edvel da mudan\u00e7a de h\u00e1bitos. O h\u00e1bito constr\u00f3i-se em ciclo: Pista (est\u00edmulo) \u2013 Rotina \u2013 Recompensa \u2013 Pista \u2013 Rotina \u2013\u2026 O projecto de Comportamentos Seguros foi constru\u00eddo, considerando este ciclo. Para que uma rotina seja alterada, \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio que as pessoas vejam convictamente um benef\u00edcio nessa altera\u00e7\u00e3o. Isso foi conseguido atrav\u00e9s de curtas sess\u00f5es de forma\u00e7\u00e3o em 2014\/15.\r\n\r\nDurante esse per\u00edodo foram desenvolvidos elementos visuais como o v\u00eddeo de entrada nas instala\u00e7\u00f5es, cartazes, placards, etc. Estas foram as Pistas. Em fase posterior, foram estabelecidas novas Rotinas no que toca \u00e0 seguran\u00e7a: Safety Walks, Minutos de Seguran\u00e7a e Observa\u00e7\u00f5es de Seguran\u00e7a. Nada disto foi r\u00e1pido ou f\u00e1cil. A monitoriza\u00e7\u00e3o cont\u00ednua das iniciativas (que continuamos a fazer) permite-nos ter consci\u00eancia de que em nenhum dos casos atingimos a perfei\u00e7\u00e3o. Claro que algumas pessoas fazem melhor e outras pior. Algumas cumprem as quantidades definidas para as rotinas, e outras n\u00e3o. Tamb\u00e9m foi assim quando a sociedade come\u00e7ou a utilizar o cinto de seguran\u00e7a.\r\n\r\nA Recompensa resulta do reconhecimento dos bons comportamentos por parte da hierarquia. \u201cO indicador mais importante para mim, \u00e9 sempre o que o meu chefe pergunta!\u201d E com a seguran\u00e7a, n\u00e3o \u00e9 diferente.\r\n\r\nPassaram tr\u00eas anos desde o arranque do projecto em 2014.
